What is the Wheeling Nailers Booster Club?

The Wheeling Nailers Booster Club is a non-profit organization made up of enthusiastic hockey fans dedicated to assisting and supporting professional hockey in the Wheeling area.

What is done in the Booster Club?

Since its start in 1992, the Booster Club has provided the Wheeling Thunderbirds/ Nailers players with appreciated extras such as comfortable outfits to wear to and from away games, snacks on road trips, and essential items for their living quarters to list a few. The Booster Club makes every player feel at home with carefully chosen members who "adopt" them into their homes and treat them as part of their own families.

Throughout its nine-year existence the Booster Club has also supported the local community by donating over $36,000 to local charities through the sale of 50/50 raffle tickets at every home game.

The Booster Club support is essential on the ice as well as off the ice. The boosters support the team by organizing bus trips to away games, leading cheers, and making banners and signs that are hung throughout the Hammerdome (Wheeling Civic Center).

The Booster Club isn't all work.

As a member you can participate in various member-only activities.

  • Steak Fry - A get together put on by the booster club before the start of the season, but unlike the other Booster Club parties, the Steak Fry is open to anyone who wants to go.
    Welcome Back Party
    - A dinner and a party held at the beginning of the season attended by players, office staff, owners, and club members. Designed to get the players and club members acquainted with each other on a more personal basis.

  • Christmas Party- A dinner held for players, office staff, and owners where Christmas gifts are exchanged through a Chinese gift exchange.

  • Awards Banquet- A catered dinner at the end of the season where special awards and plaques are presented to players. A highlight of the evening is the auction of personal items donated and autographed by the players. Half the money raised is given to the team for meals during the playoffs.

  • Picnic- A yearly picnic for members, any players, owners, and office staff that still may be in town. A great time to get together during the off season.
