Aaron Clarke and Mike Gooch Re-Sign for 2008-2009

The Wheeling Nailers have announced their first player signings of the 2008-09 season.  Forward Aaron Clarke and defenseman Mike Gooch have re-signed for the upcoming season.
Clarke was a huge rookie surprise last season, after starting the year on the injured list.  He picked up 19 goals 17 assists for 36 points, while playing in 60 games with the Nailers.  Coach Puhalski is happy to have Aaron Clarke on board for another season.
Mike Gooch joined the team late in the season, and played in nine games, and got one assist.  His grit and spirit is why Puhalski signed him for his true rookie season.  Gooch is having his jersey retired from Neumann College, where in 25 games last season he had four goals and 28 helpers for 32 points.
    The Nailers
next game is October 17th, 2008, at 7:35, as they kick off the 2008-09 season, against the Cincinnati Cyclones, at WesBanco Arena.  You can hear the Nailers, on their new radio station, The Mix WK97.3 and ESPN Radio 1250 AM, the pre-game show starts 30 minutes before the puck drops.

Wheeling Sends out Eight Qualifying Offers

The Wheeling Nailers have announced the eight players they wish to offer a standard ECHL Contract to for the 2008-09 season.  Those players are forwards, Sean Berkstresser, Sean Collins, Steve McJannett, and defenseman Tyson Marsh, Julien Brouillette, Chris Snavely, Todd Spencer, and goaltender Curtis Darling.
Sean Berkstresser finished out the 2007-08 season with Wheeling, and in eight games played had a goal and assist for two points.  In 33 games with Robert Morris last season, he had nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points.   Sean Collins was offered a contract to retain his ECHL playing rights, as he signed with a team in Finland.
Steve McJannett, Tyson Marsh, and Julien Brouillette are the three players traded to the Nailers prior to the Columbia Inferno disbanding.  McJannett had 36 points in 54 games with 16 goals and 20 assists.  Tyson Marsh played 61 games with Columbia scoring three goals and helping out on 14 others for 17 points, he was then rewarded with an AHL call-up to the Rockford Ice Hogs, where he played in 11 games and had two goals and two assists.  Julien Brouillette played in 67 games picking up 17 points on six goals and 11 helpers.
Chris Snavely and Todd Spencer are the two defenseman retained by the Nailers.  Snavely had 18 points on four goals and 14 assists, while Spencer had two goals and six assists on eight points.
Wheeling also sent an offer to goaltender Curtis Darling, who went 7-17-3, and had a .914 save percentage and a 3.60 GAA.
These offers will hold until August 1st, and until the offer expires these players can not be traded.  Since none of these players are ECHL Vets, the Nailers will retain the rights to all of these players, for one playing season.
